'Tis the Sea-Sun! Sandy Wonderland

Last weekend, the City of Galveston hosted the 31st Annual AIA Houston Chapter Sandcastle Competition. A total of 58 teams of architects, engineers and contractors participated in the event. Page collaborated with Linbeck and La Nova Tile. The team dreamed up and designed a sandy wonderland where Santa Claus might spend the other 364 days of the year by bringing the holiday spirit to the beach.

Every year, Page works hard to develop an innovative idea. This year, we decided to test the "sand and water only" rule by incorporating ice into our sculpture scene. We constructed a 4-foot-tall obelisk with 10-by-six-by-six-inch ice blocks, marking our site as the South Pole—Santa's summer getaway vacation home.

After five months of planning, 70 team members spent five hours shoveling sand and hauling water to create the perfect mixture of sand and water. But we think it was our beautifully detailed carving that resulted in our Fifth Place Overall win and Best Team T-Shirt in a field of nearly 60 teams!

Thank you to our sponsors LESCO, Wilsonart, Armstong and The Kip Co.
