Project Description

This award-winning 63,000 square foot STM laboratory renovation and expansion project provides state-of-the-art research and support facilities for Gallaudet University’s expanding sciences program. Inhabiting large sections of the existing third and fourth floors with spaces suited for teaching laboratories and support spaces, the renovation introduces much needed light and views that energize and activate spaces for learning. Page/SST Planners provided complete lab planning services including programming, equipment planning, documentation and construction administration. The architect was Studio Twenty Seven Architecture.

The scope of work included hands-on, learning environments for general biology, physics, general and analytical chemistry teaching labs, instrument, research and support spaces, collaboration spaces and fully equipped AV / IT learning classrooms. The goals for the project included upgrading the quality and safety of all laboratory spaces to comply with current safety standards, creating a collaborative student-centered learning environment and incorporating DeafSpace Guidelines in the design.
